  • Kevin Kearns Founder and CEO

Kevin is founder and CEO of Burn with Kearns, where he is responsible for the worldwide development and implementation of personal training continuing education courses and group fitness licensing programs.

For over twenty five years, Kevin Kearns has been professionally involved in the fitness industry. In 2013, he was named an All Star Conference Presenter for IDEA, the world largest association for fitness and wellness professionals.

His commitment to fitness is both unique and compelling. If you looked up “last pick” in the dictionary you would have found a picture of a young Kevin Kearns. He was the last one picked on the field, in gym classes and at recess. Simply put, he was the neighborhood punching bag. When Kevin was twelve his father died of liver failure and his world was completely turned upside down.

An uncle turned father figure talked Kevin into taking karate classes. This was a turning point in Kevin’s life as it instilled within him confidence and discipline. Most importantly, Kevin learned to compete against himself. He learned that if he practiced he became better. From the love of martial arts grew the love of exercise and at the age of 19 he was able to join the first Gold’s Gym in Massachusetts. At that time he did not know what he wanted to do in life and personal fitness training was not well known back then.

After earning his degree from the University of Massachusetts, he started his first fitness job at the Boston Athletic Club. Kevin began experimenting with new concepts of fitness based on what he learned at school.

People at his gym become intrigued by his “creative” approaches, which emphasized functional conditioning. Soon he started helping others and his career as a personal fitness trainer in the Boston area took off.
Based on his extensive martial arts and fitness backgrounds, Kevin has served as the strength and conditioning coach for professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters including Alberto Crane, Kenny Florian, Marcus Davis, and Din Thomas. He also was the strength and conditioning coach for WEC fighter Alex Karalexis and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and MMA fighter Daniel Gracie. Kevin works closely with famed Muay Thai/MMA coach Mark DellaGrotte out of Sityodtong.

Athletes from several professional teams work with Kevin during the on and off seasons.

Kevin is certified by the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association), is a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Certified Specialist, a FreeMotion Master Trainer and member of Team Bosu.

In the summer of 2013, Kevin released a book, “Always Picked Last”, about how bullying impacted his childhood and the lessons he learned in overcoming it.

Kevin writes a monthly column for Ultimate MMA and Train Hard Fight Easy magazines. In addition, he has contributed to Maxim, Fight, Inside Kung Fu and Men’s Fitness magazines.

  • Michelle Palladini Law enforcement
    Public school programming advisor

Throughout my years of service as a police officer, I have discovered a pattern in my calls for service. I have encountered a number of adults who cannot manage their emotional states (anger, anxiety, or sadness). Lacking these emotional skills often results in risky (and sometimes criminal) behaviors, mental health concerns and/or substance abuse. Research shows that adult mental health issues begin in childhood. Our children need to be learning emotional self-regulation as it’s of vital importance to their resiliency.

I began thinking about ways that police officers could approach the subject of effective skill building through their interactions with children. Juvenile Officers have a unique opportunity to truly support children, aiding in their personal growth and success.
It is my mission to educate other Police Officers in the L.E.A.P. Method, as it’s quickly become a framework for effective school based policing. L.E.A.P. is teaching Officers ways to work within their community, building relationships with parents, teachers and outside agencies to support the student.
L.E.A.P. is working to empower School Resource Officers to approach the position mindfully, and with a great deal of compassion for our young people who face so many developmental, educational and societal challenges. When we build relationships, we build bridges between the public and the police.
